Most Ophthalmology practices in DFW are still providing traditional cataract surgery as their only option. Typically, this means one lens implant option or lens implants from one vendor only. It often means cataract surgery the traditional way with the use of a blade, instead of a laser.

Office-based Cataract Surgery
We were among the first practices in Dallas-Fort Worth to offer office-based cataract surgery. With Office-based Cataract Surgery, our goal is to offer a more LASIK-like experience with Cataract surgery. Traditionally, Cataract surgery is performed in a Hospital or ASC, where an IV has to be placed, there are long wait times and you are wheeled out in a wheelchair or gurney.
Our state of the art Office-based Surgery Suite is located in Plano. You can look forward to:
- No IV.
- No long wait times.
- Walking yourself from surgery minutes afterwards.
- Seeing many of the same familiar faces from our clinic instead of strangers.
- Check-in to check-out in 1 hour in most cases.
- State of the art technology including the Catalys Precision Laser system and Alcon ORA SmartVision intraoperative aberrometer.

Lens implant choices
Depending on your eye health and eye needs, we offer numerous Lens implant choices. Some correct vision for far, near and intermediate distance vision. We also offer Light Adjustable Lenses. Each technology has its pros and cons. You can talk to your LaserCare Eye Center surgeon about the following options:
- Multifocal Lenses: These lenses correct vision for far, intermediate and near distance. This is the most commonly implanted lens type in our practice.
- Light Adjustable Lenses (LAL): This is a lens that can be implanted and then adjusted for a limited period of time after surgery.
- TORIC Lenses: These lenses are designed to correct astigmatism. There are multifocal, EDOF and monofocal versions of TORIC lenses.
- Extended Depth of Focus Lenses: This is a cross between a multifocal lens and standard monofocal lens. They typically correct vision for far and intermediate vision and may require reading glasses for near vision.
- Standard Monofocal lens: These lenses are limited in they do not correct for astigmatism, can only be aimed for one specific distance and require glasses to finetune vision.
LaserCare Eye Center is a Technology Forward Ophthalmology practice and we are always re-evaluating the technology offerings for our patients. As such, we avoid listing specific lens technology offerings. Please rest assured we use virtually all the lens implants from the major vendors. Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery
Historically, Cataract surgery was performed with the use of blades to make the incisions. Since 2014, we have offered laser-assisted cataract surgery. The Femtosecond laser (similar to what we use for LASIK and SMILE) is used to make incisions, correct astigmatism, “soften” the cataract and provide real time imaging for the surgeon. This results in a more predictable, controlled and precise result. Since 2014, we have performed laser-assisted cataract surgery on thousands of patients.
ORA SmartVision
ORA Intraoperative Aberrometry is an optional technology that can be used to improve your Surgeon’s ability to choose the prescription power of your lens implant at the time of cataract surgery. Traditionally, the measurements for lens power are made in the clinic before cataract surgery. The challenge is the cataract impedes light and it can affect the accuracy of these measurements. With ORA, on the other hand, it is performed after the cataract is removed and so the path for light is clear. This additional accuracy is helpful for nearly all patients, but especially for patients with extreme prescription, former LASIK patients and more.
Lifetime Assurance Plan
Many practices offer Lifetime Assurance Plans for LASIK, but we were amongst the first in DFW to offer it for laser assisted cataract surgery.
- We offer 6 refractive procedures (LASIK, SMILE, RLE, Evo ICL, Laser-assisted Cataract Surgery, and PRK) to help get patients out of glasses and offer an optional Lifetime Assurance Plan with all of them.
- The purpose of the optional Lifetime Assurance Plan is to allow the patient to protect their investment.
- If you develop or have residual prescription after your Refractive surgery, our optional Lifetime Assurance plans offer discounted LASIK or PRK to correct that prescription and more.
